A Dutch Silver-Hilted Hunting Sword Circa 1730-40, Perhaps Middelburg With broad curved blade (some light scattered pitting) double-edged towards the point, the hilt cast and chased in high relief and comprising pierced downbent foliate shell-guard centred on a mustachioed grotesque mask, foliate rear quillon and knuckle-guard formed as an elaborate double scroll, and tapering fluted grip decorated on the back with a scallop-shell and a trail of foliage, each against a punched ground, scrolled pommel with further mustachioed grotesque mask carrying the tip of the knuckle-guard in its mouth, and fluted button, in original vellum-covered wooden scabbard tooled with foliate decoration within line borders on the outside and with silver chape and later locket, the latter with frog-button 44.3 cm. blade Footnotes: Provenance Fine Antique Arms and Armour from the Henk L.
