A Rare Pair Of 54-Bore Flintlock Silver-Mounted Pocket Pistols By Joseph Clarkson, London, Circa 1730 With turn-off cannon barrels, signed breeches, border engraved tangs each decorated with foliage, border engraved actions, cocks and steels, chiselled steel-springs, sliding trigger-guard safety-catches each with sprung release button (triggers not a pair), figured rounded swelling butts, cast and chased mounts comprising side-plates each of foliated strapwork, a foliate mount behind each tang, and butt-caps each with foliate grotesque mask, a scallop shell and engraved foliage above, London proof marks and Clarkson's barrelsmith's mark (2) 4.7 cm. barrels Footnotes: Provenance Sold in these Rooms Antique Arms, Armour & Modern Sporting Guns, 26 May 2021, lot 328 Joseph Clarkson received his freedom of the Gunmakers' Company by redemption in 1715.
