An 18th century Dutch silver tobacco box Maker's mark of a Cockerel for Marcelius de Haan or Cornelis de Haan, 's Gravenhage (The Hague), 1775 Shaped-circular form, the plain surface with spiral form bellied sides, the pull-off shaped domed cover with flower and foliate finial on a leafy calyx, with a narrow open-work apron between four leafy feet, 15cm wide, 15cm deep, 18cm high (5 1/2in wide, 5 1/2in deep, 7in high), weight 18.3 troy oz, weight 567gms. Footnotes: Related Literature A very similar example with marks for Cornelis De Haan: J. W. Fredericks, Dutch Silver, The Hague, 1952, vol. II, no. 529, p. 176, ill p. 264. Provenance From the collection of the late Cornelis Paulus van Pauwvliet.
