A Very Rare Agate-Hilted 'Transitional' Small-Sword Mid-17th Century, Probably German With slender tapering blade (some old rust staining) of flattened diamond section, the central fuller on both sides of the forte incised 'TOMAS AYALA', the edges on either side etched with foliage, cruciform hilt comprising pear-shaped quillons made separately from the two-piece quillon-block, spherical pommel, and baluster grip, moulded silver ferrules at the junctions between the parts struck with two indistinct marks, and silver caps at the end of each quillon and beneath the tang button 73.5 cm. blade Footnotes: See footnote to lot 307 This lot is subject to the following lot symbols: * * VAT on imported items at a preferential rate of 5% on Hammer Price and the prevailing rate on Buyer's Premium.
