A BETTER PAIR OF PATTERN 1856/58 YATAGHAN SWORD BAYONETS FOR THE P53 ENFIELD RIFLE, circa late 1850s, each with 23in. steel blade fullered on each side, steel cross-guards, black pressed leather grips, bird's head pommels and leaf-spring catches, together with their black leather scabbards with steel fittings; the first with ricasso with Broad Arrow and 'WD' above a Birmingham repair mark, with the Kirschbaum Solingen knight's head mark over, cross-guard stamped '955', chape and locket stapled to the rear, chape with flattened end; the second with polished blade, ricasso marked '+7', no other marks visible, cross-guard indistinctly numbered, scabbard painted, locket and chape stapled front and rear, rounded tip to chape, surface rust on exposed steelwork. French 1842 Yataghan Pattern Bayonet with single edged fullered blade 574mm in length. Spine of blade is maker marked for Impériale de Châtellerault and dated 1864 along with pattern date. Many inspection markings. Brass grip with working release catch. Overall length 695mm. No scabbard. Along with another example with 572mm long single edged fullered blade, maker marked and dated to spine of blade Châtellerault 1849. Brass grip with different pattern release catch to the previous example. Working release catch. Overall length 695mm. No scabbard. Both in very clean condition. (2)
2x Closely Similar Turkish Swords Yataghan, 19th Century, the first with maker’s blade stamp, elongated bolsters covered with nicely embossed silver sheet, 2 piece horn grips, plain zinc gripstrap, in its leather covered scabbard; and another closely similar. The first in good condition with some age wear and a little rust, 1 grip chipped at pommel, a little damage to leather; the second in slightly worse condition with heavily corroded bolsters. Blades 59cms and 65.5cms respectively.

A RARE ARMENIAN YATAGHAN SWORD, GOLD INLAY, 19TH CENTURY. The blade is deeply recurved, with three narrow fullers along the spine, the entire surface inlaid in elaborate running vine motifs in gold. The bronze hilt with elongated triangular ears, embellished with wolves hunting amongst vegetation and a large baldheaded, mustachioed male figure with arms upraised. Mid-19th century. The earliest Armenian historian, Moses of Khoren (c. 410-490 c.e.?) records in his History of Armenia, an ancient Armenian god known as Kund (or Bald) Aramazd who presided over Navasand, the Armenian New Year.
