Provenance: Ron was born on the 22nd of March 1922 in the East end of London, lived there with his parents and brother. It was a happy childhood. They later moved to Kent. Ron was a very special talented person, who, when he died, was a much loved husband, bother-in-law, uncle and friend to countless people. After signing up to the Royal Navy, he became one of the crew for a frigate on the North Sea Convoy as an engineer. This was an awful experience and one that after the war inspired him to write a poem just to remind people how awful war was. After the NSC he then went to America as one of the crew tasked with bringing flat bottom boats back across the Atlantic to take their place in the Second World War.After the war he got a job as an engineer in several big companies and worked in London until a tradgedy shattered his life. This event caused him to make the decision to to pursue his great love of art in Cornwall. He bought a small cottage in Mount Hawke and started painting, doing commissions, having exhibitions with other people and then gradually on his own. He also made sculptures and wrote poetry, stories and music. Work was commissioned by all sorts of places in Cornwall including schools and a sculpture of John Opie which is in St Agnes Museum. One of his abstract works in Bronze won an open competition at the Penrith Gallery St Ives. He started working with fibre-glass and later, in his sixties he became fascinated the way the computer can be used to produce Art and created many beautiful digital pieces .As well as doing commissions he loved to teach, especially children, so he was a regular teacher in some schools and in others went to do projects. Any child we have spoken to that was taught by Ron, we have been told what an excellent teacher he was. By selling the paintings any proceeds that we make will go to help and encourage children with their future ideas of art. Some time after he came to Cornwall he met Dawn, both walking along the cliff path near Tubby's Head! His favourite fishing site!! She became his wife, his friend and constant companion, and in his later years when he got Parkinson's disease she did an amazing job of looking after him.Ron loved Cornwall and rarely left it, He died in 2009.

An Elizabeth II Parcel-Gilt Silver Cup and Cover, by Asprey and Co. Ltd., London, 1965, Designed by James Porteous Wood, Craftsmen Keith Tasker tapering triangular and on openwork base, engraved on two sides with inscriptions, the detachable cover openwork and with a gilt triform leaf-form finial, on conforming triangular rosewood base 34cm high including base, weight of silver 34oz 12dwt, 1,076gr The inscriptions read 'The Carreras Piccadilly Northern Cup Ripon August 1965 Won by Major L. B. Holliday's "Finish Fast" (Fidalgo Javotte) 21-8-65' and 'Bilsdale Hunt Perpetual Challenge Cup'. James Porteous Wood was born in Edinburgh and went to the George Heriot School, though he left when he was only 14 as his interest lay in studying art, which he subsequently did at the Edinburgh College of Art. His early artistic expression was through watercolour painting, which he did around Ripon while based there as a non-commissioned office during the war. His talents were recognised in 1945 when he was elected to the Royal Scottish Watercolour Society. It was perhaps as the Director of Art and Design for Asprey that he was to make his greatest impact with commissions such as an 18ct gold bowl which was presented to President Eisenhower and a model of the Dome of the Rock which was commissioned by King Hassan of Morocco. With a diameter of some 175cm the creation has been described as the most important piece of silver ever exported from the UK. His works rarely appear on the market but what does appear shows a similar flare for design and the use of luxury materials. Two items by him, both marked for Asprey, were included in the exhibition Embellish: The Art of Hand Engraving, held at Tennants in the summer of 2023. They were both kindly loaned from the Pearson Silver Collection and included an 18ct white gold and quartz-set box made to commemorate the Chester Assay Office and a salver engraved as the Totalisator Spring Handicap trophy. Interestingly on each of those examples credit is given to those involved in the creation of the item, the salver for example also being made by craftsman Keith Tasker and the box engraved by Theodore C. F. Wise, a nod perhaps to his interest in encouraging young talent, which he also did by sponsoring an annual art prize at Mallaig High School. With non-transferable CITES A10 licence no. 24GBA105BNYPB. Fully marked on one side near rim and further part marked on cover bezel. The marks are generally clear. The base further stamped 'Asprey London; and engraved 'Designer Porteous Wood' and 'Craftsman K Tusker'. There is some overall surface scratching and wear, consistent with age and use as well as some minor bruises. The base with three later screw holes to allow the cup to be fixed to the wood base. The wood base with fading and some holes where plaques were originally attached. There is some glue residue to the base as well.

RARE SET OF TWELVE CHINESE EXPORT WATERCOLOUR 'MARRIAGE PROCESSION' PAINTINGS QING DYNASTY, 19TH CENTURY 清 外銷水彩畫 出嫁圖(共十二幅)watercolour on paper, each painted with part of a marriage procession including various figures including musicians, carrier with dowry, porters for palanquins, groom and bride meeting groom's parents, and the firstborn child, some painting attached at the top-left corner with corresponding titles of the scene (12) largest: 32.8cm x 48.1cm  As trade with China increased throughout the Qing dynasty, the Western curiosity regarding life in the East grew with it. In the pre-photography world, paintings (particularly watercolours that could more easily be bound in albums and transported back), were the medium in which this fascination was sated. Indeed, by the end of the eighteenth century, no visit to Canton was complete without the purchase of a set of watercolours. To appeal to this foreign market, these images were often highly romanticised and displayed an increased use of Western perspective and shading. The blank backgrounds of this series are very significant; no attempt has been made to put the figures in a Westernised context, instead retaining the Chinese tradition of depicting and celebrating the activity in isolation.A favourite subject matter of Chinese export art was images of figures and daily life, and this set is rare due to the depiction of a marriage procession in great detail. A set of 100 Chinese export watercolour paintings depicting different trades and occupations in Canton, attributed to Paqua and dated to c. 1790, comparable in style and size, is in the collection of the Victoria & Albert Museum, accession number: D.104-1898. A further comparable set of 24 watercolour paintings depicting different scenes relating to an opera about the murder of a husband by his consort and her lover, dated to the 19th century, is in the collection of the British Museum, object reference number: 1877,0714,0.1084-1107.

He worked in both oils and watercolours and nearly all his pictures were of Venice, but he did paint occasional English views. Pritchett is now considered to be one of the finest painters of Venice of the Victorian era. His artistic imagination was inspired by the atmosphere and daily life of the city. His works are painted in a lively, fresh, often almost impressionistic manner and few artists have better captured the changing light effects and vivacity of the Venetian scene. He exhibited at the Royal Academy between 1828 and 1849, the British Institution and the Royal Society of British Artists.
