Engine number 126.There is no paperwork with this lot.A tricycle aimed squarely at commuters, the Ariel 3 was powered by a 50cc Dutch Anker engine and featured a clever banking front end controlled by torsion bars, while its closely-spaced rear wheels, which remained upright, allowed the Ariel trike to be classed as a moped. The registration number is not recorded with DVLA.

Lot 497

2023 Peugeot Metropolis 400W. Registration number YX23 UPO. Frame number VGAX1AACBN0006327. Engine number 13673451.Sold with the V5C, two keys, purchase invoice, owners manual.Peugeot’s Metropolis is challenging the market leading Piaggio MP3 with the PowerMotion 400cc 4-valve engine. It has ABS, and a two-mode traction control. If you’ve never ridden one of these tilting trikes before, then do try one, because they can be a hoot to ride, especially in traffic. Although they tilt, you can lock them upright at a standstill, and sit at red lights, feet up. Then twist the grip, it unlocks and you’re away without having touched the ground. As the twin front wheels are set wide enough apart it is classed as a tricycle meaning that they can be ridden with just a car licence in your wallet so long as it was passed before 19th January 2013 and you are over 21. Otherwise, you’ll need an A2 licence.UPO was purchased by our elderly vendor in April 2024 as he wanted to relive his motorcycling youth, unfortunately insurance companies will not offer him any cover so the trike has stayed in his garage with just 2 delivery miles on it. This may increase to 3 or 4 miles as it is a hoot to ride around our car park!

1951 Reliant Girderfork Van Registration Number: WXS 199 Frame Number: TBA More famous for its two-wheel products, Raleigh experimented with cars into the 1920s, announcing its first car in 1933. The Raleigh Safety Seven tricycle deployed one wheel at the front and two at the back, to allowed more passenger space than the Morgan three-wheeler. An air-cooled 742cc v-twin provided the power, mated to a three speeds gearbox (with reverse), and shaft drive to the rear axle. Up front the single wheel was steered via a motorcycle-type “girder fork”. When the Safety Seven ceased production in 1936, designer Tom Williams set up Reliant Engineering to continue production in van form. Motorcycle power units were soon abandoned in favour of the four-cylinder Austin Seven engine, production and development of the latter being taken over by Reliant in 1939.   First registered in March 1951, and with the registration number WXS 199, this “long wheel base” (!) example is said to run and drive under its own steam, with, according to the vendor, “747cc of pure power!”. A fun commercial and a rare sight on the roads today.
