LA DOLCE VITAItalian 4-Fogli (55" x 77")Very Fine+ on Linen; Artist Giorgio Olivetti Cineriz, 1960There were two styles of Italian large-format posters created for this film and this is widely considered the best. This country-of-origin Italian 4-foglio on linen offers a striking image by Georgio Olivetti of the beautiful Anita Ekberg, as a world-weary Mastroianni looks on. Other than some very light and minor sporadic airbrushing mostly for staple marks in the borders, this poster is in fantastic condition.Federico Fellini's masterpiece, La Dolce Vita ("The Good Life") is a film about one man's search for a significant life. Marcello (Marcello Mastroianni) is a newspaper journalist who writes puff pieces about celebrity gossip, religious visions, and the arrogant and self-indulgent aristocracy. Although successful, he longs to lead a life of more intellectual pursuits among writers, poets, and philosophers. The result is a film that revels in the glitz and glamour of Marcello's world while simultaneously revealing it to be ultimately empty and unsatisfying. Many consider this to be Fellini's finest film, and it is widely regarded as one of the greatest movies ever made, being included on virtually every "Best Movies" list published. This lot will be auctioned on Thursday, December 7th. The auction will begin at 9:30am PST and lots are sold sequentially via live auctioneer; tune in to the live streaming broadcast on auction day to follow the pace. Note other lots in the auction may close on December 8th.
