The heart of the car, its 5.3-litre V12 engine, is described as being in ‘excellent’ condition, as is the automatic transmission. It was acquired by the vendor at the end of 2023, he bought it from a close friend, called Dave, who’d owned it for more than two decades. An engineer by trade, Dave did all the work himself. The vendor doesn’t have any paperwork, but does report it passed every single MOT as far back as 2006 first time, “no advisories… that’s 19 on the trot. Quite remarkable”. The bodywork is described as ‘average’ but the underside is demed to be in good order, as is the interior, and the V12 Daimler drives “beautifully”. The Daimler Double-Six name was revived in 1972 for the flagship V12 version of the contemporary Jaguar XJ12. The twelve-cylinder Daimler was visually almost identical to the Jaguar, with only badges to distinguish them. The Double-Six enjoyed the same series upgrades as the Jaguar, and survived as the Series III until 1992. For those seeking a relatively affordable version of the iconic Jaguar V12 engine, the Daimler is a tempting choice. The spacious saloon uses Jaguar’s 4.2-litre straight-six XK engine, mated to a three-speed automatic transmission. It has been extensively restored by the current owner, who has spent around £30,000 over the course of their ownership of ‘NAU 521E’, bringing the Daimler back to its former glory. This includes stripping everything out and sending the bodyshell to a professional garage to for renovations, including new brakes fitted and a stainless-steel exhaust. The undersides and engine bay have been resprayed three years ago, the roof refurbished by RS Sunroofs in Kent, and a new leather interior installed.Bought by the current keeper eight years ago, ‘NAU 521E’ was originally sold through Stratstone’s London dealership in 1967 – initially painted cream – but was then sold to a customer of H.R. Owen in London in 1970 and shipped to America, where it stayed for the next 40 years. Not much is known of its time across the Atlantic, though the vendor has receipts of work from both Tuscon, Arizona and Cape Arago, Oregon. It was repatriated in 2014, where an MOT the following year records 73,000 miles on the clock; the odometer now reads 20,000 miles. Included is a large file of invoices and the original handbook, as well as the toolbox. The seller describes all areas of the vehicle – transmission, bodywork, paintwork, electrics, and interior – as ‘good’ though the engine is rated as ‘excellent’. Daimler and Jaguar’s 420/Sovereign was introduced in 1966, and was a development of the S-Type – itself a development of the Mk II saloon. Daimler’s offering was pitched at the more luxurious end of the market, in keeping with the brand’s positioning at the time, with Jaguar the sportier, more aggressive of the two manufacturers. As such, although mechanically the cars were identical, both featuring Jaguar’s 4.2-litre XK straight six unit, the details were tweaked, such as Daimler’s ‘D’ icon used in place of Jaguar’s cat motifs, a fluted grille surround, and higher specifications of wood veneer and leather used. This late example of a V8 250 is an older restoration model, featuring Daimler’s 2.5-litre V8 Turner-designed petrol engine, and three-speed automatic, column-shift automatic transmission. Presented in Ascot Fawn paintwork with late-model thin chrome bumpers, ‘YNP 14G’ comes with a red leather interior, including front bench seat, and wood veneer dashboard. One of the last built, ‘YNP 14G’ is a low mileage model that has covered fewer than 1,000 miles since 2018, according to the current owner. Offered with an extensive file of paperwork, which includes original handbooks and radio operating instructions, the service book has 28 stamps inside. All the old MOTs are included, as are the original Daimler documents with service chart. Work carried out includes a professionally stripped and resprayed shell 10 years ago, a replacement gearbox was fitted in 1978, a stainless steel exhaust installed fewer than 4,000 miles ago, when the power steering system was also reconditioned, and a new prop shaft bearing fitted. Front brakes were overhauled at the same time, while the rear brakes were replaced fewer than 1,000 miles ago. Otherwise, much of the Daimler is original or sympathetically restored. The chromework and body panels are considered in ‘good’ condition by the seller, as are the paintwork and interior, while the electrics, engine, and transmission are rated as ‘excellent’. They also consider the indicated 72,277 miles shown on the odometer as genuine. Jaguar’s Mk II is one of the all-time great classic saloons, combining style, practicality, and performance, and Daimler’s version – initially the 2.5 V8, and latterly the V8 250 – shares these attributes. Launched in 1962, it sits at the crossroads of Daimler’s heritage. Following the company’s acquisition by Jaguar, the 2.5 V8 was the first to use a Jaguar platform, and the last to feature a Daimler designed engine. The main change to the Jaguar Mk II is the use of Daimler’s V8, rather than Jaguar’s straight-six XK unit. The Daimler V8 was smaller and lighter than Jaguar’s engine, and as such, Daimler revised the spring and damper settings. Some alterations had to be made to the sump and exhaust manifolds, and Daimler’s use of the Borg Warner Type-35 automatic transmission was also smaller than the gearboxes used on Jaguar’s models, further altering the driving characteristics. It was called the 2.5 V8 from 1962 at its launch until 1967, when a minor facelift saw the name changed the V8 250. Design changes included new, slimmer bumpers and over-riders, a revised electrical system, and an alternator rather than a dynamo. It is finished in a subtle and classy metallic blue with a cream interior, and both are described as being in ‘good’ condition. The interior also features Jaguar’s famous walnut wood veneer, which is described as being in ‘excellent’ condition. The folding convertible roof is electrically operated, and has a matching cream interior liner. What’s more, the 4.0-litre V8 engine and automatic transmission are said to be in ‘excellent’ condition, as are the electrics. This cherished Jaguar XK8 comes with the original book packs, which include the driver’s manual and service booklet, detailing the car’s full service history. With the Jaguar brand set to be reborn in 2025, this is a great opportunity to buy a genuine modern classic. The Jaguar XK8, known by marque aficionados as X100, was introduced in 1996 to revive the storied XK series. It was offered as a two-door coupe or convertible, powered by the all-new Jaguar AJ-V8 engine. Intriguingly, the architecture was derived from the Jaguar XJ-S and was related to the Aston Martin DB7 – both cars were based on a 1980s concept that never reached production. It has had only one owner from new and has reportedly been garaged all of its life. The odometer reads just 40,000 miles and the vendor reports that, for the past 26 years, it has always been MOT’d and serviced by the same people, initially at Royals and then at acclaimed Jaguar specialists Horner & Hudson of Macclesfield. Along with the full service history, this car also includes the original Jaguar owner’s manual, owner’s folder and service book, plus the original spare wheel. The engine, transmission and electrics are described as being in ‘excellent’ condition and, overall, the vendor says it is “a very looked after and cherished example”. The fabled X308-generation Jaguar XJ8 was introduced in 1997 as the third and final iteration of the 1986 Jaguar XJ40 architecture. Fitted with the more powerful 3.8-litre straight six Jaguar engine, this MkII comes with burgundy leather interior, and has had only four previous keepers, bringing up only 6,450 miles indicated on the odometer. One of the most important models in Jaguar’s history, the curvaceous MkII saloon was the model of choice for everyone in the 60s, from police to criminals, and royalty to film stars. Famed as much for its performance and handling as its svelte styling, the MkII was an one of many examples of Jaguar-founder William Lyons’ eye for detail.
