A framed and autographed original production animation cel for Fender Bender 500, one of the animated segments in Wake, Rattle and Roll. Created by Hanna-Barbera Animation art, the artwork shows Top Cat and Choo-Choo in their trash can monster truck, the Alley Cat. To achieve this production art, the black outlines were transferred from the animator's original drawing onto an acetate cel and then the colours were hand-painted on the reverse. The artwork was finally placed over an artist's background, reproduced directly from original art. It comes mounted within a black frame with acrylic and features a hanging wire on the reverse. The cel is autographed in black ink by the co-founders of Hanna-Barbera, Bill Hanna and Joe Barbera, and bears the studio seal in the lower right corner. This cel was created by transferring Takamoto's original drawing onto an Exlar film sheet through silk screening and then hand-painted using Hanna-Barbera colours. Eqbal Mehdi (1946-2008) The Young Bride signed 'EqbalMEhdi' (lower right) ink over pencil 64.5 x 49.5cm Pakistani artist, Eqbal Mehdi, has received widespread acclaim for his pen and ink drawings of subjects including street scenes, horses, and, as demonstrated by the present lot, portraits. Born to a family of poets and filmmakers, Mehdi began drawing at eight years old and received no formal instruction throughout his career. Although his work is largely focused on everyday life in Pakistan, Mehdi cited Rembrandt and Andrew Wyeth as notable influences.Demonstrating a Rembrandt-inspired use of shadow and light, the present work is an excellent example of Mehdi's oeuvre, both in subject and execution.

(Lusitania, World War I.) Charles Emelius Lauriat Jr: 'The Lusitania's Last Voyage. Being a Narrative of the Torpedoing and Sinking of the R.M.S. Lusitania by a German Submarine off the Irish Coast, May 7, 1915', Boston & New York, Houghton Mifflin Company, 1915, 1st edition, signed and dated by the author on half title "by charles E. Lauriat Jr. I-XII-1915", tissue guarded b/w frontis depicting RMS Lusitania + 2 b/w plates as called for (double page plate deck plans + plate of Lusitania's lifeboats at Queenstown from a pen & ink drawing), vii,158,[4]pp, original pictorial cloth. Very scarce first hand account of the sinking of the Lusitania by Charles Emelius Lauriat, Jr (1874-1937), rare book dealer from Boston who was a passenger on the Lusitania's fateful last voyage and survived to tell the tale. Lauriat was an experienced traveler, but the last voyage of the Lusitania was his first on the Cunarder. He was on a business trip, traveling with fellow Bostonian Lothrop Withington. Lauriat’s cabin was B-5 and his ticket was 1297. When the Lusitania was sinking, Lauriat attempted to assist Elbert and Alice Hubbard. Lauriat entered lifeboat 7 but jumped out when the lifeboat could not be freed from the mother ship. Lauriat was saved by the Wanderer (Peel 12) and Flying Fish. He led a survivors’ mutiny against the crew of the Flying Fish when the captain of the rescue vessel would not allow the survivors to disembark without clearance from the authorities.

Titled along the verso.Richard Sussman, born in Minneapolis in 1908, was a distinguished artist known for his captivating depictions of the Lake Superior North Shore's landscapes, including its changing seasons, rock formations, jack pine, and waterfowl. He studied at the Minneapolis School of Art with Cameron Booth. He also studied at the Art Students League in New York and trained there with notable artists like George Grosz and Hans Hoffman. Sussman's works, primarily watercolors, are held in esteemed collections such as the Metropolitan Museum of Art, San Francisco Museum of Art, Minneapolis Institute of Arts, and University of Minnesota, among others. He exhibited widely, including at the Chicago Art Institute and the Brooklyn Museum, and taught at institutions like Macalester College and the University of Minnesota. Inscribed "To Kenneth with every best wish" and signed.Charles Schulz grew up in St. Paul, Minnesota, and fostered a love of comics throughout his childhood. He spent his later teen years studying drawing and cartoon work through a correspondence course with Art Instruction Schools. Following deployment in Europe during WWII, Schulz returned to St. Paul and got a job working as an instructor for the Art Instruction Schools. After a short lived comic strip for the St. Paul Pioneer Press, he hit it big with Peanuts in 1950, which was syndicated by United Features. The strip quickly became an enormous success, with legions of fans across the country–and world–falling in love with his quirky cast of characters and charming illustrations.The present lot typifies the characteristics for which Schulz’s comics were best-loved. It shows the characters’ personalities, always distinctive and lovingly mocked by Schulz.
