A TIBETAN GILT-COPPER EWER, PENBA HU 18TH/19TH CENTURY The twelve-sided pear-shaped body embossed with floral cartouches, with a flared neck and foot, 1.4kg, 29cm. Provenance: from the collection of Norman Blount, 1875-1930. Norman Blount was a jute broker, as well as the joint secretary (with the artist Abanindranath Tagore) of the Indian Society of Oriental Art, which was founded in 1907 in Calcutta, with Lord Kitchener the Society’s President. λ A GOOD CHINESE RHINOCEROS HORN ‘CHILONG AND LOTUS’ LIBATION CUP 17TH/18TH CENTURYThe sides crisply carved in relief and openwork with eight chilong of various sizes, three of which clamber around a stylised lotus stem to form the handle, the others with their bodies weaving in and out of scrolling tendrils and blooms, the base centred with a sacred pearl, the material is a rich dark caramel darkening to walnut and with a high polish, 219g, 8.4cm high, 11.4cm long.Please note that an export licence will only be granted for rhinoceros horn pieces, should the hammer price meet or exceed the value of 100 USD per gram of the item’s weight.注:若閣下需辦出口證書,落槌價須超過每克100美金。Provenance: from an English private collection, Sussex.Cf.
