In this three-quarters portrait, the man is turned slightly to the left but looks directly into the camera. He is dressed in a long-haired wig, a bonnet, a silk scarf tied at the neck, a voluminous shawl and in his right hand he holds a watch at the end of its chain.

A French Tete Jumeau Bisque Socket Head Bebe Doll, with fixed blue glass paper-weight eyes, finely painted lashes and feather brows, closed mouth, pierced ears with later earrings, blond wig, on a fully jointed composition body, wearing a cream silk and lace dress, net bonnet and underclothes, shoes and socks, stamped in red to the back of the head with 'Tete Jumeau' size 10, 57cmEyelids have been restored and one of the teeth.  Chips to both pierced ears, slight scuffing to the head.  I have lamp tested the head and it is ok - no hairlines or chips.  Scuffing around the neck and the joints on the body, both hands have been restored.

Kammer & Reinhardt Bisque Socket Head Doll, impressed 117n, with brown side glancing eyes, open mouth, teeth, blond wig, jointed body, wearing a white cotton dress, bonnet, blue shoes and socks, 59cmNo cracks, chips to the head.  Some scuffing to the face, eyelids repainted and cracks, eyes working side to side, although possibly been reset slightly further back.  Base of her neck has scuffing and wear.  Some cracks and wear to the body, hands appear to be intact.

The WWII uniform belonging to Sergeant Ishbel Mackenzie who served in SOE SPOC (Special Projects Operations Centre) in Algiers from April to September 1944 and then at SOE HQ in Rome, under CO Commander Gerry Holdsworth, until August 1945, the green cloth tunic with anodised brass buttons to the front, pockets, shoulder straps and cuffs, F.A.N.Y. collar badges and maroon rank stripes to cuffs, the lining with tailors label 'Simmons Bros', inscribed 'No 2536, Date 28.3.44, Miss I.H. Mackenzie', 67 cm long, 43 cm inner arm length, plus a green cloth bonnet with anodised Women's Transport Services F.A.N.Y. cap badge with maroon felt backing, the lining with tailors label 'John Jones & Co (Egypt) Ltd, The English Tailors, Cairo', the overall condition is very good with one or two minor moth holes QTY: (1)NOTE:Provenance: By family descent.Ishbel Mackenzie (1925-2023), SOE/FANY spent her early years in India. Her father, Louis Mackenzie, was a Scottish surgeon serving with the Indian Medical Service in the North West Frontier Province (now Pakistan), and based at Abbottabad and then Parachinar. Her mother, Gwen Mackenzie née Jones, was a Welsh paediatric nurse. Louis died of pneumonia in Parachinar in 1929. Gwen married again, to a major in the Indian Army, also in the North West Frontier, based at Nowshera.In 1938 the family retired to Jersey in the Channel Islands. After the onset of WWII the German army was set to invade the Channel Islands. Ishbel's family, because of their connections to the British military, were expected to be maltreated and so were ordered to get out immediately. They managed to secure places on the last boat to leave St. Helier before the Germans arrived on 30th June 1940. As refugees, the family moved to Cheltenham. There Ishbel went to school up to School Certificate level and then went on a course at a secretarial college which had been evacuated from London to Stanway House in the Cotswolds.When she had qualified and was wondering what to do next, the Principal arranged for her to attend an interview at the Interservices Research Bureau in Baker Street, London. This turned out to be a recruitment front for SOE, the Special Operations Executive, the secret organisation charged with espionage, sabotage and reconnaissance in occupied Europe. Still just 17, she was offered a job as a secretary at Aston House - SOE Station XII - near Knebworth, in the department which designed and tested weapons and explosives for use by SOE agents in the field. After a while, Ishbel asked to be posted overseas and was advised to apply to join the FANYs (First Aid Nursing Yeomanry) which by that time was providing administrative support to SOE.Once in the FANYs, Ishbel was posted first to Massingham, the SOE headquarters in Algeria. After a few months, as the allies advanced north through Italy, she was transferred to the SOE base at Bari, in the south of Italy, and then to Rome where she worked and was billeted at the SOE headquarters at 115 Via Barnaba Oriani for the rest of the war. Back in London after the war she worked as a secretary for the BBC before getting married and moving with her new husband to Bangkok, Thailand, for seven years.The lot also includes a 5-page memoir which includes Ishbel's detailed account of active service in Algiers and Italy.Please note. A Large Tete Jumeau bisque head Bebe, size 13, French circa 1890, with good pale complexion fixed brown glass paper-weight eyes, feather brows and delicately painted closed mouth, pierced ears and later blonde wig with original pate, on a good fully jointed wood and composition body, wearing a red velvet dress with lace, fur trimmed cape and bonnet, underclothes, socks and brown leather shoes, red stamp to back of head ‘DEPOSE, Tete Jumeau, Bte 13. 28” (71cm) tall, (condition: head perfect, slight wear to hands).

A reproduction Schmitt bisque head Bebe doll, with blue glass paper-weight eyes, feather brows and closed mouth sheep skin wig, and pierced ears, on a fully jointed composition body and wearing a mauve velvet and silk dress and bonnet, 14 ½” (37cm)tall.

A Kammer & Reinhardt 403 bisque head girl doll, German circa 1910, with weighted brown glass eyes, painted brows, open mouth with upper teeth and original blonde wig, on a fully jointed wood and composition body, wearing later white dress with pink polka dots, bonnet, underclothes, socks and brown shoes, incised K star R, Simon & Halbig, 403, 17” (43cm) tall, (condition: excellent).

Rare large size Kestner 111 all bisque jointed Googly-eyed doll, German circa 1910, with weighted brown glass googly eyes, single stroke brows and water-melon smile, original short blonde wig and fixed neck, jointed at shoulders, elbows, hips and knees, with painted white socks and brown sandals, wearing a later pink patterned dress, bonnet and underclothes, 7 ½” (19cm) tall, incised 111, 5, Germany. (condition: professional restoration to each upper thigh and upper right arm).

A wax over composition shoulder head doll, English circa 1860, very sweet expression, blue glass eyes, cloth body with red leather lower arms, brown dress with apron and bonnet, 27” (69cm) tall, (condition: wig replaced, fading to mouth).

A large Kammer & Reinhardt/S & H bisque head ‘walker’ doll, German circa 1910, with weighted blue glass eyes, painted brows, open mouth with upper teeth, pierced ears and original light brown wig, on a composition walking body operating head movement, wearing a white cotton dress and bonnet, together with her parasol, white gloves, corsets, bloomers, bonnet, and two slips, 25” (64cm) tall, (condition: good).

A large poured wax shoulder head doll probably Montanari, English circa 1860, with large blue glass eyes, nicely sculptured lids, painted brows and slightly smiling coral lips, short inserted blonde hairstyle and sloped shoulders to cloth body with chunky wax lower arms and legs with detailed toes, wearing a blue off the shoulder dress with detailed fringing, white lace pinafore, underclothes, socks, brown leather boots and later bonnet. 29” (74cm) tall, (condition: good, a very faint old repair to upper right leg).
