A Scottish Backsword With Basket Guard Of Glasgow Type The Hilt Early 18th Century, The Remainder Late 18th Century With tapering blade with fuller over nearly its entire length over each side to the double-edged point and with a narrow fuller bordering it along the back, iron guard of fluted bars framing finely fretted panels pierced with pairs of stylised hearts and circles, the side panels each with 'ram's horn' pierced with a stylised heart, and with an oval aperture for the reins, fore-guards, small scrolled wrist-guard, bun-shaped pommel with three arched flutes between incised lines, tang button flattened into the pommel, spirally-grooved fishskin-covered grip bound with brass wire, and buff-leather liner (damaged) faced in red woollen cloth 92 cm. blade This lot is subject to the following lot symbols: * * VAT on imported items at a preferential rate of 5% on Hammer Price and the prevailing rate on Buyer's Premium.
