Baker, London, Early 19th Century With turn-off barrel, border engraved action signed within an oval against a martial trophy over each side, engraved thumbpiece safety-catch also locking the steel, trigger-guard engraved with a shell-like motif, and figured flat-sided butt (some old scattered pitting), London proof marks 11.5 cm. barrel Footnotes: Ezekiel Baker (1758-1836) apprenticed to and workman of Henry Nock, was the inventor of the Baker rifle and author of Remarks on Rifle Guns (1801).
