A German Close-Helmet Circa 1520-30, Probably Nuremberg Of iron, with rounded one-piece skull with low roped skull pierced at a later date with two rectangular holes at the top for a crest, pierced with a pair of small holes on each side for lining laces, and with a row of dome-headed rivets around the back of the neck, a sprung button-catch on the right for securing the bevor, rear neck-guard of three downward-lapping plates (two replaced) each with turned and roped border, bevor and 'bellows' visor pivoting at the same points on each side, the former shaped to the chin and with turned and roped border, the latter (two minor fractures) with bevelled edges, pierced with horizontal vision slits and pairs of ventilation slots, the latter between double incised lines, replacement lifting-peg and sprung button-catch at the bottom on the right, and dome-headed rivets (some old rust patination and pitting) 27.5 cm. high Footnotes: Cf. a very similar helmet (inv. no. 14.25.549) in the Metropolitan Museum Of Art, Stuart W.
